1 “Which flowers are fashionable?”
Trends change, so ask your florist for inspiration! At the moment, scented cottage garden flowers such as sweet peas, lilac, lily of the valley, peonies, garden roses and kitchen herbs are popular.

2 “How much notice do you need?”

Generally, we ask brides to allow three months if possible. Some roses are available in relatively small numbers, so we recommend planning well in advance.

3 “How should I choose my colour scheme?”

Your flowers play a central role in creating your colour scheme and your florist can help you work on this. Ask for samples and compare the flowers against your dress material, checking both outdoors and indoors!

4 “Which flowers are in season?”
This can really affect what you choose and how much you pay so it’s worth asking! Many flowers, including garden roses, are now available all year round, but spring/summer weddings will give you the widest choice of seasonal flowers. Peonies are only available from May to July, but you can create the same effect all year round with multi-petalled garden roses such as the Rosalind.

5 “How can I bring the cost down?”
Your florist will be able to pass on plenty of budget-trimming tricks! They may be able to be creative with containers and filler, or design the arrangements from the ceremony so that they can be transferred to the reception.

6 “What is the most popular variety for weddings?”
At David Austin, brides often ask for the Juliet rose, which has a beautiful rosette form and sophisticated colour. It works beautifully with all shades of cream, ivory and white.

7 “Can you recommend flowers for a romantic place setting?”
Your florist can advise you on all aspects of your wedding flowers, so make sure you ask! We love the idea of a single rose stem laid across each napkin.

8 “When will my flowers be delivered?”
Most florists will deliver your flowers the day before the wedding.

9 “What should I do when my bouquet arrives?”
Check that your flowers have been delivered in water. If, so, leave the box open in a cool place. Ten minutes before you need them, carefully dry the stems with a napkin to avoid wetting your dress.

10 “Will you be able to come and set the flowers for me on the day?”
Many florists, including David Austin, can provide a full installation service – it’s just one less thing for you to worry about on your big day.
