With so many wedding dresses featuring beautiful back detailing we know all brides want to avoid dreaded back acne – or bacne as it is charmingly known - on the big day. But with wedding stress and bridal pressure mounting, it can be difficult to avoid the odd body spot – particularly if you’re prone to breakouts. Here’s what you need to do to treat body spots.

Tie your hair up
Bacne is caused when the sebaceous glands on your back get blocked with oil and dead skin cells (nice), so it’s important to keep the area clear of any excess oil or grease. If you have long hair, the texture or products you use could be affecting the skin on your back. Make sure you keep it tied up and out the way.

Opt for loose clothing
Tight clothes can also cause breakouts, so opt for looser, natural breathable fabrics in the run up to the big day.

Always shower after a gym session
If you’ve stepped up your gym routine, you may have noticed an increase in bacne too. This could be down to gym gear that doesn’t let your skin breathe or not immediately showering after exercise. Always have a proper shower after working out (don’t wait until you get home!), or if you’re really pushed for time, invest in some decent body wipes

Choose a clarifying body wash
Lots of perfumes and chemicals will only make your back acne worse, so choose a body wash that will slough away that dead skin and oil and keep those pores clear. We love Origins Purifying Charcoal Body Wash, £20 and the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Bar for Face and Body, £17.

Exfoliate your back
Don’t go too crazy and scrub your back raw every day, (or you’ll just create even more irritations), but a weekly exfoliate will help to reduce the build-up of dirt and grime on your back and stop spots. We love the all-natural power of Bean Burst Coffee Scrub, £15.

Hunt down a salicylic acid body spray
If your bacne needs something a little more serious, salicylic acid is the best way to exfoliate your skin and get it looking in tip top condition again. The Clarifying Body Spray by Murad, £35 is amazing at fighting blemishes and keeping skin clear.

Don’t go picking
Although it might feel tempting, picking at spots is the surest way to spread them. Keep your hands away from you back unless you’re treating it and resist the urge to squeeze!
