10 top flower tips
Quintessentially Flowers’ Michelle Stamp shares her top 10 questions to ask your florist
1 When do I order my flowers?
You could have an initial consultation with your florist and reserve your date a year before your big day. But, you can leave it for four to six months before your big day to confirm your exact flowers.
2 How do I know how many flowers to order?
The number of flowers you have will depend on your venue and budget. Your florist could advise you what would work best.
3 Will my florist help me choose my blooms?
Your florist will be able to suggest different flowers to suit your style and budget. If you get together ideas and images of what you like, this will give the florist a good place to work from.
4 Do I need to know what dress I’m wearing before
I order my bouquet?
Some styles of bouquet do complement certain styles of dress, but it’s not necessary to choose it first. However, I have had brides change their minds after they’ve chosen their dress!
5 Do I have to pick flowers that are in season?
Seasonal flowers are always best as they are easily available and are often more reasonably priced. But there are some flowers that are available all year round, so don’t worry too much.
6 Does the florist decorate the venue, or do I have to do that myself?
The quote you’re given by the florist will include decorating the venue with your chosen flowers. Some people do it themselves to save costs.
7 Can I keep my flowers after my wedding?
The flowers are yours to keep, but check about vases and containers. These are normally just for hire.
8 Are there any flowers that you would advise brides avoid on their wedding day?
Flowers are very personal to each couple so we’d never say no to any flowers they may want. But you may want to check if any of your bridal party has allergies as this may affect your choice!
9 Are there different binding options for my bouquet?
You can use ribbon or lace to bind your hand-tied bouquet or even an unusual cord. You can also add antique brooches and beads and ornate wire to decorate the stems for a glam look.
10 Do my blooms get delivered on the day?
Yes. You can arrange with the florist where the bridal flowers need to go to and by what time.
