Top make-up artist Jemma Kidd shares her secrets for the perfect close-up
Cymbeline at Barcelona Bridal Week 2011

1 Start with clean, moisturised skin, as the camera highlights any patches of dry or oily skin. Give your skin a few seconds to absorb the moisturiser, then apply a primer. This will even out your skin’s texture and help fill in fine lines and open pores.

2 Use a non-SPF liquid or crème foundation, as ones containing SPF can sometimes give a white cast to the skin on camera. Make sure you blend the foundation well to avoid any tidemarks at the jaw or hairline, and be careful to choose one that’s right for your skintone. Check the colour outside to check it looks good in natural light.

3 Use a matte bronzer slightly darker than your skin tone. Most shimmery powders don’t translate well on camera, while dark bronzers may make you look orange. Try my Bronze Perfection bronzer for a soft, sunkissed look that won’t look unnatural on camera.

4 Use a bit more cheek colour than you normally would for everyday, as camera flash often washes out the skin and makes you look paler than normal. Try going for soft pink and peachy tones to enhance and brighten your face and balance out the eyes and lips – they’re great shades for creating a romantic bridal look too.

5 Use an eye base to stop your eye shadow and liner smudging. Eye shadow with a matte finish tends to look more flattering in photographs, but try adding shimmer to the inner corners of your eyes.
