Grooms' fashion tips
Don’t feel left out of the dressing-up fun - your wedding day is your opportunity to wow your bride with your amazing sense of style!
To ensure that the groom and his men match the colour and style of the wedding party, the groom’s attire is usually chosen after the bride has ordered her dress, and chosen the bridesmaids’ dresses. But this is your wedding too, so if you’ve got any firm opinions about what you will and won’t wear on the big day, speak up early on! When you’re considering your outfit, these are the things to think about...
The style of the wedding
If it’s a formal, daytime wedding a traditional morning suit is usually perfect. At an ultra-modern, city hotel wedding, a sharp-looking suit would go down a storm.
The time of year
Top hat and tails are great, but if you’re marrying in August the groom’s party could be uncomfortably hot!
Consider how much you have to spend on suits for yourself, your best man and ushers (and your father and the bride’s father if they are wearing wedding attire too). Your options include bespoke, in which a suit is tailor-made to your measurements; off-the-peg, in which you buy a suit that is a standard size from shop; or hire, in which you and your party hire off-the-peg suits for the day or the weekend.
Colours
Most grooms choose a tie (whether that be a cravat or a bow tie), a waistcoat or a cummerbund (a thick band which sits around your waist over your trousers) to match the bridal colours. So if your bride is wearing a dress with gold touches, you may want a gold waistcoat, or if the bridesmaids are wearing pink, you might choose a pink waistcoat and tie.
