Honeymoon review: Hotel Plaza Athénée, Paris
The gorgeous exterior of the hotel, with signature red details.

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Plaza Athénée, situated on the très chic Avenue Montaigne, we felt like absolute celebs – unsurprisingly, as this ultra-glam hotel often features on-screen; most notably in those final two episodes of Sex and the City.

Greeted at the rotating doors by doormen clad head to toe in tailcoats and chauffers’ hats, we entered the hotel and were immediately blown away by the stunning décor. The chandeliers, high ceilings, glass doors; everything just seemed to sparkle.

Upon first site of our suite, it was evident why the hotel is in such demand. The décor is so traditionally French, with opulent furniture, rich colours and plenty of luxuriously draped fabrics – not to mention the stunning marble bathroom.

The hotel’s signature colour is red which is classily trickled throughout the entire building; from the geraniums adorning the outside of the building and the umbrellas and red glasses on the tables in the outdoor La Terrasse Montaigne to the blood red fruit juice served at breakfast.

France is known for its exquisite food offering, and Hotel Plaza Athénée takes this to a whole new level. Breakfast has absolutely everything you could ever imagine; freshly baked pastries, plates of fruit, eggs in every style possible and not forgetting my personal favourite, the French toast. This was like nothing you could ever imagine; it literally melts in your mouth. This is definitely not to be missed.

Eating our way around the hotel’s many restaurants was pure heaven. Our first dinner was in Le Relais Plaza, a chic Art Deco restaurant which features a lot of aesthetically pleasing pinks and golds. The menu was to die for; three courses of indulgent French food, including a chocolate caramel finger that I was intending to just sample and ended up devouring.

We also had the opportunity to dine at The Chef’s Table (an invite-only experience that cannot be bought – the A-list feeling just kept getting stronger!) at the recently refurbished 2 Michelin star Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée restaurant within the hotel, where we tasted the exquisite menu which is entirely based on a fish-vegetables-cereals mantra. With light, beautiful and incredibly tasty dishes, this was the highlight of the trip.

For the ultimate in luxury, be sure to book into the hotel’s Dior Institut. Using solely Dior products, this is a spa like no other. My facial was tailored to my exact needs, making it such a personal experience. My skin has never felt so soft!

I think a big part of what makes the hotel so special is the attentive staff. From the front-of-desk members who welcomed me to the staff that brought me room service (ordering a Matcha latte from the in-room iPad was so fun!), every single person I encountered was as polite and committed to the brand as the next.

Hotel Plaza Athénée would make for the perfect honeymoon or minimoon after your wedding. Simply check in and enjoy the utterly amazing experience.

Prices from €990. Visit the hotel's website to book.
