Hotel review: Palazzo Manfredi, Rome

Looking for the perfect honeymoon spot for an idyllic Roman holiday? We’ve found it.

Hotel review: Palazzo Manfredi, Rome
Palazzo Manfredi is situated right by the Colosseum

Positioned on the most enviable street in all of Rome, Palazzo Manfredi sits between the ruins of Nero’s infamous palace and the iconic Colosseum.

Inside, the hotel is decadent, yet chic with rich furnishings and cool Italian design-touches everywhere you look. We loved the birdcage lift and the welcoming staff, who know some top local tips and are eager to ensure you have the best stay ever.

We were lucky enough to stay in a Family Suite where both the bedroom and bathroom faced the imposing Colosseum (there’s nothing quite like a morning shower over-looking ancient Rome!). The room oozed quality with white baroque opulence, a marble bathroom, Nespresso coffee machine (natch) and divine Aqua di Parma toiletries.

However, Palazzo Manfredi’s real show stopper is on its roof. Home to the Michelin-starred Aroma restaurant, this intimate little terrace has welcomed many a celeb (Matthew McConaughey, Morgan Freeman and Arnold Schwarzenegger to name a few) and it’s not hard to see why the A-listers flock here.

It seats only 40 covers, and as a result has an exclusive feel with lovely attentive staff – oh, and it boasts the most sensational view of the city. In fact, it’s almost impossible to tear your eyes away from the towering Roman treasures (the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Altare della Patria), that is until the food arrives…

We sampled the seven-course tasting menu, which perfectly blends traditional Italian flavours with a modern twist. Highlights included the ‘olive oil and potato “Ravioli” on a thyme and mascarpone cream’ and the ‘terrine with braised endive and sweet and sour sauce’ – delicious!

If you’re looking for a glamorous base to take in the sites of ancient Rome, and indulge in a little luxury, Palazzo Manfredi cannot be beaten. Our top tip? Prosecco on the terrace with the sunset over the city – it doesn’t get much more romantic than this…

Palazzo Manfredi has rooms available from €700 per room per night, based on two adults sharing a Prestige room on a B&B basis. For further details, please visit
