Finding a suitable outfit for an evening wedding can be a challenge! Follow these simple pointers to get it right:
Ian Stuart MOTB 2011

1) It doesn't have to be long

Evening dress doesn't have to mean going floor-length, so don't panic if you can't find anything suitable. Look for this season's flattering mid-calf length, or stick with classic knee-length with statement heels.

2) Choose a cover-up

If you've found the perfect evening dress but worry that it shows off too much flesh, choose a cover-up to wear over it. Coast and Phase Eight have flattering boleros and shrugs, or choose a pretty scarf or wrap.

3) Look for texture

Avoid overly glitzy dresses, and instead look for interesting textures. Velvet is perfect for winter weddings, or try textured silk for summer.

4) Add heel appeal

Once you've found your perfect dress, choose a pair of statement heels to complete the look. Avoid anything too low as it will spoil the line of your dress, but remember to practice walking in them before the day!

5) Accessorise!

If you've struggling to find a statement dress, choose something simple and make it your own by adding glamorous accessories. Accessorize have some great fascinators, while LK Bennett is a good place to find dramatic jewellery.
