Festival weddings are a growing trend, but it's a challenging dress code for mothers of the bride! Get the look with our quick guide:

1) Take your wellies!

There's nothing worse than ruining a good pair of shoes, so make sure you've got a pair of wellies in the back of the car to change into if things get muddy. Try thewellyshop.com for coloured styles you can coordinate with your outfit!

2) Don't go long

A floor-length dress is likely to get mud-splattered at an outdoor wedding, so make sure you choose something shorter. Bear in mind you might be sat on picnic blankets or hay bales though, so look for something that's comfortable to sit down in and that won't ride up.

3) Layer up!

If the wedding's taking place in tents or tipis, the temperature might dip as the day goes on. Find an elegant long cardigan or shawl that you can wear if it gets cooler, and maybe a warmer jacket for the evening.

4) Check the dress code

Find out from your daughter exactly what the dress code is going to be – you don't want to be dressed up if everyone is wearing casual dresses. An easy rule of thumb is to go for more floaty dresses over structured ones – you'll look less formal.

5) Experiment with prints

Floral prints are a great option for outdoor weddings, and will give your look a relaxed, romantic vibe. Choose fresh, bright colours that will work with the theme, and try to choose something machine-washable just in case it gets muddy!
