Beauty on Test - Genuine Dermaroller
Perfect Wedding's Cath puts this unusual skin treatment to the test
Every bride dreams of glowing skin, but if you’re not blessed with a flawless complexion (and who is?), a cosmeceutical treatment may be the way forward.
I’ve had some acne scarring since my teens, and have tried microdermabrasion and chemical peels to improve the appearance of my skin. Both were good treatments but didn't give lasting results, so the Genuine Dermaroller micro needle treatments sounded like the perfect solution for a more permanent change.
The treatments involve a roller covered in 1.5mm needles being worked over your face by a nurse, puncturing the skin with hundreds of tiny holes. It sounds gruesome, but my skin was numbed with lots of anaesthetic cream beforehand, so although the treatments were fairly uncomfortable it wasn’t anywhere near as painful as I’d expected.
The tiny punctures made by the needles are designed to boost collagen production, reducing scarring and signs of ageing to give you smoother, more even skin. The process is fairly slow, as the collagen takes time to form, meaning that the results are seen over months rather than days.
My face was bright red after the treatment, but by the day after the treatment it had gone back to its normal colour and looked glowing and healthy. I was advised to wear plenty of sunscreen every day to protect my skin after the treatments - even after the redness had gone down it was important to stop my skin getting burnt.
I was initially sceptical about how effective the treatments would be in the long-term, especially as I'd tried lots of other treaments before. However, after five sessions, each six weeks apart (the recommended number of treatments is usually three, but for more problematic skin, five are often recommended), my skin is hugely improved and the scarring is far less visible.
My skin is also smoother than it’s ever been and looks better under foundation than I'd hoped. The treatments have also hugely boosted my confidence. Although the treatments are pricy (from £250 per treamtment), I think they're a good investment to get skin I’d be proud to show off in my wedding photos!
THE VERDICT
An amazing treatment to get troublesome skin looking smooth and glowing before the biggest day of your life!
