Every bride wants to feel amazing on her wedding day, but there are a few common wedding dress regrets that we hear time and time again. We spoke to real brides to find out what they would change about their wedding dresses so you can learn from their mistakes. Hindsight is a truly wonderful thing!

“I wish I’d tried sitting down in my dress before my actual wedding. I only realised the corset rode up a bit when I sat down, which freaked me out on the drive to the ceremony. I soon worked out I just needed to gently pull it down before I sat and it was all sorted, but no bride wants a last minute panic on her day!”

I bought my dress from a sample sale but didn't get it dry cleaned before the day because I didn't want to risk ruining the lace. I then got it dry cleaned after the day to sell it on and it came out beautifully! Even though it looked fine when I wore it, I really wish I'd taken the chance and it would have looked even better."

“I loved the off-the-shoulder style of my wedding dress, but I didn’t really factor in how restrictive it would be! Lifting my arms above my head was impossible so I couldn’t quite pull off our first dance. In the end I bought a white dress from the high street for the evening so I could move around easily.”

I lost quite a lot of weight before my wedding, and I didn't spend enough time at the final fitting to check I was 100% happy with the fit. Even though everyone else thought it looked fine, I noticed that the corset gaped a bit round the chest"

I do wish I'd spent a little more on my dress. I loved it at the time and had lots of compliments on the day but looking back you could tell that the fabric wasn’t the best quality.”

“I wish I’d given myself more time for dress shopping. I started about 8 months before but I didn’t realise how hard it was to get an appointment at boutiques (particularly ones that lined up with when me and my bridesmaids were free!) and I didn’t know most stores take around 6 months to order their dresses in. I really struggled to find the right gown and it ended up being a real panic choosing a dress in time and not enjoyable at all!”

“I regret not thinking about my accessories a little bit more. My husband hinted that he was buying me a necklace, so I didn't buy one. On the wedding morning, I opened his gift to discover that the necklace chain was too long and didn't look right with my strapless design. I should have had a back up just in case!"

I fell in love with my corseted dress, but I wish I'd considered how easy it would be to move in on the day. The day was quite warm and it felt REALLY tight – my bridesmaid had to unbutton me at one point so I could have a little breathe!"

"I bought pretty flat shoes to change into for dancing, but didn't actually try them on with my dress until the day. I couldn't walk in them without tripping over the front of my dress, so had to stay in my uncomfy heels all evening!"

“The budget for my wedding dress was low (our honeymoon was the priority!) so I bought my dress online. Although I still love it I do kind of regret missing out on the whole dress shopping thing – it would’ve been nice to visit a few boutiques!”
