I've just bought all my bridesmaid dresses in the sales (such a bargain!). They're gorgeous but my wedding isn't until 2013 and one of my bridesmaids says she will lose weight, so wants hers swapping for a smaller size. I've known her for years and she is always saying she will lose weight but never sticks to a diet.

I really want to support her and have faith in her, but I'm also worried that if I get her a smaller dress it may not fit on the day and she'll be upset (and I won't be able to get her a new one as nowhere will have them in stock).

What would anyone do??!!! So tricky!

Do you know anyone who can sew? Are the dresses complicated? I am thinking you could tell her that you couldn't get one in the smaller size, but not to worry because you will get it taken in to fit her nearer the date of the wedding.

Thank you, that's a good idea! I'm sure my mum would be able to help with this - the dresses are strapless but made from quite a simple cotton fabric. I'll let you know how I get on...!

Yes please let us know how it goes, because if your Mum can do it, you can stop worrying either way, you will have a dress that fits your Bridesmaid regardless of her slimming success.

All sorted - phew! Mum says she'll look at all the maids' dresses and make sure they fit them perfectly, so now they all feel 'special' and the bridesmaid who was worried about her dress has calmed down.

Just got to decide on shoes for them now - I might make things easy and let them choose their own!
