Finding the perfect wedding dress to suit your body shape can be tricky – especially with so many options out there. But whether you’re pear, apple, hourglass or petite we reveal what wedding dress styles and necklines you need to look to suit and fit you perfectly.

WHAT YOUR WEDDING DRESS SAYS ABOUT YOU

Pear-shaped brides
Pear-shaped ladies carry weight around their hips, bums and thighs, so it’s all about creating the illusion of a balanced silhouette. Most pear shapes have a tiny waist and flat stomach – so show that off. Draw attention to the bust and waist area, and go for an A-line skirt that will skim over your hips and bum.
What to look for: Shoulder and bust detailing, A-line or ballgown skirts, corseted bodices, hip-skimming silhouettes

Essense of Australia

Hourglass brides
Curvy hourglass girls go in at the middle, with a fuller bust and bottom to contrast with a small waist. Curves look great in bridalwear, so if you’ve got them, show them off! A fitted fishtail gown will look incredible – especially one with a structured bodice. Best to give floaty, unstructed gowns a miss as they’ll hide your amazing waist.
What to look for: Fitted gowns, corseting, fishtail silhouettes, waist details or cute belts

Petite brides
Petite brides risk being swamped by big princess gowns, so look for dresses with a narrower silhouette or shorter hemline to suit your tiny figure. Keep details small and the waist high to flatter your frame. Deep necklines will elongate your décolletage, which helps to give the illusion of height. Short dresses look great on petite girls – plus you get to flash some cool heels at the same time!
What to look for: Short styles, unstructured gowns, delicate detail, slim-fitting silhouettes

YOUR FINAL WEDDING DRESS FITTING: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Athletic brides
If you’re tall and slender, make the most of your model-esque proportions in a chic unstructured dress. A slim-fitting gown that hugs the body will show off a toned figure to perfection – try a slinky column dress or a cute fit and flare design to create the illusion of curves.
What to look for: Slim-fitting styles, plunging necklines, pleats or draping, column dresses, trumpet skirts

5 PEOPLE NOT TO TAKE WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING

Apple-shaped brides
Apples carry weight around their middle, but can boast amazing legs, slim hips and a great cleavage – lucky ladies! Shoulder details are a great way to draw the eye up, as is any detailing around the bust. A gathered waist or peplum will help to flatter your middle section, or you could go all out and choose a short style to show off those gorgeous legs!
What to look for: Shoulder, hip and bust detailing, gathered waists, corseting, shorter style
